Outdoor climbing!
Mar. 23rd, 2009 10:27 pmBack in the day, when I was in the "hiking club" in high school, we went on a few climbing trips. I didn't really know what we were doing, but I really enjoyed it.
Fast forward about 20 years, and I discovered (through a girl on OKC) that climbing is now available, *indoors*! No more needing to get a big group together, or have all the fancy equipment, or even know how to use it. So of course I started climbing, and have been really enjoying it.
Completely by accident, a few weeks after I started climbing (again), I met a whole bunch of people who climb quite a bit. Well, yay, I now have climbing partners! Not only that, but they go on climbing trips, and know what they're doing, and can teach me stuff!
That brings us up to this past weekend. See, we have a 4 day climbing trip next month. This will be the first time I've gone outdoor climbing since the 80s. It will also be one of the other girl's first time outdoors. So just to make sure we know what we're getting into, we went to a local rock in Berkeley, just for a few hours to try it out. Then, there was ropes, and harnesses, and some scrapes and blood and a general good time:

Bottom line, it was awesome, and I can't wait for next month. Only thing I'm worried about now is if I should get a new lens for the trip, since I think something with a little bit more zoom might be helpful. Perhaps one of the 70-200mm lenses... We'll see.
